By a lot. That’s the answer. It’s not even close. The question is by how much is China ahead of the rest of the world in EV car implementation? With a vision of practicality to fit the many, and starting with small electric bikes, progressing into affordable vehicles and buses, the country is now a leader in electric mobility.

China has a different approach

And, opposed to the western version of electric vehicles, after conquering the affordable, they are now launching their forays into the premium. Of which BYD is a main proponent with the HanEV. The pure electric flagship model aimed squarely at the premium luxury saloon market, will be revealed in Europe.

BYD Company Ltd. is one of China’s largest privately-owned enterprises. Since its inception in 1995, the company quickly developed solid expertise in rechargeable batteries and became a relentless advocate of sustainable development, successfully expanding its renewable energy solutions globally with operations in over 50 countries and regions.

Elbowing their way into Luxury EVs

Featuring bold design cues and with exceptional build quality throughout, the Han EV marries the automotive industry’s most advanced EV technologies with exceptional performance, refinement and supreme luxury. A high-performance silicon carbide motor-control propels the Han EV from zero to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. At the heart of the Han EV’s drive system is BYD’s new, ultra-safe and space-saving Blade Battery, offering a remarkable single-charge range of 605 kilometres based on the NEDC test cycle and setting new safety standards for EVs worldwide.

The Han EV will also feature ‘DiPilot’ – BYD’s new-to-market, self-learning, intelligent driving assistance system taking advantage of the latest 5G technology. Expected to be in the $45,000 to 55,000 range, placing it firmly in the premium-spec, executive car segment it is scheduled to receive its introduction in China towards the end of June 2020.

The Design

BYD’s new ‘EV Dragon Face’ design language blends elements of a traditional Chinese Dragon with strikingly modern European design cues. The curved front-end and day-time running lights evoke the shape of a traditional Chinese dragon’s face, combing style and functionality. The high waistline, evident along the length of the vehicle, integrates seamlessly with the sweeping back line of the D-pillar to deliver a strong sense of movement. A tapered rear lighting cluster envelopes the entire width of the car emphasizing a dynamic attitude.

The Blade Battery can produce a stable current of up to 800 Amps. The high-performance silicon carbide motor-control module improves the peak-current capacity by 58%, enabling blinding and continuous acceleration . Additionally, the Han is also China’s first mass-produced EV equipped with Bosch’s ‘IPB Intelligent Integrated Brake System’, which not only brings braking safety with higher precision, but also delivers a longer range and improved braking comfort.

Stay tuned for when the Han EV will be available in your market.
