The iconic 250 GT 2+2 gets a new life
Ferrari maybe thought there was a gap between the two GTs of the range: the princess Portofino and the mighty 812.
The Ferrari Roma is a new 225 Thousand USD Gran Turismo, and it features a V8 3.9 Liter Twin Turbo, capable of 611 Bhp. The engine sits in the front, it’s managed by an 8-speed twin-clutch gearbox, and it reaches 100 km/h in 3 seconds. The top speed is above 320 km/h.
Ferrari said the Roma embodied a fresh approach to chassis design, with 70% of the parts new to the vehicle. The Roma is also a lightweight package, at just 1,570 Kg.
Not bad for a Gran Turismo, which has a direct competitor in the Aston Martin Vantage and the Mercedes AMG GT.
According to Ferrari, for the cabin, its designers “developed a new formal approach that involved the creation of two separate cells, one each for driver and passenger, in an evolution of the dual-cockpit concept that embraces the entire cabin rather than just the dashboard.”
This is an exciting evolution, as it creates an integrated, flowing interior but at the expense of some of the airy quality that characterized previous models. The instruments and infotainment are also comprehensively digital and far more of a factor than on pre-Roma Ferraris.
Despite wearing the iconic Prancing Horse logo, the 2020 Roma is more of a grand tourer than a focused track star. As a result, it treats passengers with more infotainment and connectivity features than some other Ferrari models. This includes a vertically mounted 8.4-inch touchscreen as well as a separate screen for the front passenger.
It’s inspired by the iconic 250 GT 2+2, the fast Gran Turismo that offered two small seats in the back, useful for the lucky sport driver that needed to take the kids to tennis classes. The design has changed massively, but it seems clear the fight between the elegance of the British, the Germans, and the Italians continues, as it was when the stupendous Aston Martins DB’s were the James Bond vehicles.
We will tell you more once we will get behind the wheel of it
