The new 500 hatchback EV can be booked now.
In the coattails of hte convertible, the new 500 “la Prima” hatchback marks its debut. Design extraordinaire now marries 21st century technology. With softer lines, the latest FIAT brings personality to sustainable urban mobility.
Panoramic glass sunroof, classic tailgate, three colours, full LED lights and 17″ wheels. The interior is presided by a 10.25″ screen and compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which can be used in wireless mode.
But the important stuff is underneath. and 87kW motor (that’s 118HP) and a 42kWh battery that should last nearly 320km. Contained in weight, the 500 can get to 100 KPH in 9 seconds and is self limited to a max speed of 150 KPH. No, it’s not for the autobahn. It’s for the city. And for most countries.
Charging is compatible with 85kW and can reach 80% in just 30 minutes. Normal 7 kW wall outlets can also do the trick in 6 hours. In line with many other EVs of late, the new FIAT can also be driven with one pedal, using regeneration for braking which, apart from extending the range, reduces the running cost of brakes.
Other than that, the smallest of the FIATs comes with Level 2 autonomous driving, a phone app, anti-theft location services, emergency connectivity and self diagnosis.
Expected price hovers the 35,000 $ mark and deliveries are yet to be determined. At this juncture we can say that the IN team is quite excited to try this car, but I can assure you I want one. Sight unseen.
